Flocked Drainpipe Side Tables
To be used as side tables with storage space inside. Made from sections of HDPE drainpipe with solid wood tops/lids and plywood bases. Nylon flange nuts for their feet.
The drainpipes, designed for underground drainage, have been modified through a process called flocking. This technique involves firing tiny nylon fibres onto the pipe’s surface, which is first coated with an adhesive and given an electrostatic charge. As a result, the fibres stand on end, creating a soft, velvety texture. This tactile finish is durable, warm and sensitive, applied to an otherwise dirty industrial object.
Tops made from red-stained sapele and yellow-stained southern yellow pine with “loose-tongue” joinery.
Dimensions (⌀ x H): 375mm x 450mm
The flockers are able to achieve almost any colour. Different combinations of flock/wood species are available upon request.
