Doorknobs & Bath Plugs

This project explores the endless supply of readymade objects available and their presence in day-to-day life. It was developed out of a frustration with the constant need to design new specialist objects. It encourages people to be more resourceful and inventive with things that already exist ad hoc.

It also evidences pairings of objects or materials that should belong together. Either because of the context in which they are normally used or because they compliment one another as if they were made to coexist.

Doorknobs & Bath Plugs, in many ways, was the foundation of Louis Eager’s design practise of working with readymades.

If you are a regular chess player, it is likely you have lost a piece and had to improvise with something else as a substitute. Salt and Pepper Chess uses shakers and cellars as pieces because of their shape, size and weight. Their chess teams are also predetermined: salt being white and pepper being black.

Push Brush is made from stainless steel ironmongery, a section of doormat, and a machined beech component in between. The word “PUSH” has been changed to “BRUSH”, which is both the object the action of the user.
